I go to mass every week with my wife and daughters. It is frequently characterized by children hanging on me, trying to play with me, or fussing so I carry them out. Last night we got a babysitter and went to the Holy Thursday liturgy with no children. I sat with my wife, parents, and grandparents. It was wonderful - I can't remember the last time I sat next to my mom at mass, especially with no children. Participating in Holy Thursday mass surrounded by my parents and grandparents reminded me of the many Holy Thursdays in my life in which I have done the same. The Holy Thursday mass reminds us that Christ instituted the Eucharist and instructed his followers to continue it in memory of him. This memory has been passed from generation to generation for millennia. This memory was passed on to me by my parents who received it from their parents and now I hope to pass it on to my children.
